Residential construction

Many owners in Uganda build a home or rental units on their own land. House construction covers bungalows, storeyed houses and rentals, from the foundation to the finishes. You can choose a company that supplies both labour and materials, so one company is responsible for the whole building.

Commercial construction

Commercial construction covers shops, offices, schools, hotels and mixed-use buildings. These projects usually need a full structural design, stricter approvals and careful planning around the business that will use the building.

Industrial construction

Industrial construction covers warehouses, factories and workshops: wide-span structures, heavy-duty floor slabs, loading areas and site drainage.

Roofing

Roofing covers the roof structure, whether timber or steel trusses, and the roof covering, such as iron sheets or tiles, on new buildings and existing ones.

General contracting

As a general contractor, we take responsibility for the whole project under one contract: we plan the work, buy the materials, hire and supervise the trades and specialist subcontractors, and report to you as the work progresses.

What a construction service includes

Whichever service you choose, a complete construction service in Uganda should include:

  • A priced bill of quantities (BOQ) based on your drawings, so you know what each stage will cost. See our BOQ guide.
  • A written contract that sets out the scope, the price, the payment stages and the programme.
  • Materials bought to the specification in the drawings and the BOQ.
  • Labour and supervision, with a named person in charge of the site.
  • Quality checks at key stages, such as before concrete is poured.
  • Handover of the finished building.

Labour only, or labour and materials?

In Uganda, contractors are often hired on one of two bases:

Labour only

You buy the materials and the contractor provides the workers. It can look cheaper, but you carry the work and the risk of buying, delivering and storing materials, and of any waste or theft.

Labour and materials

The contractor supplies both, at a price agreed in the contract. One company is responsible for cost and quality, which makes problems easier to resolve.

Whichever you choose, make sure the contract says clearly who supplies what.

How to get a quote

Send us your drawings if you have them, or tell us what you want to build and where. We will review the project and prepare a quote based on a detailed BOQ. You can also read about choosing a construction company in Uganda and what to check before you hire one, or browse our projects.
