Excavation, rock breaking and tipper-truck haulage, followed by rebar cages and rotary bored piling with concrete placed day and night.
This large site shows the full sequence of groundwork for a multi-storey building: bulk excavation and rock breaking, cutting and assembling reinforcement cages, rotary bored piling, and concrete placed by truck mixer, including a night pour. Excavators, wheel loaders and tipper trucks handle the earthworks.
This large site shows the groundwork for a multi-storey building from start to finish. The first photos show bulk excavation, with a hydraulic breaker working through rock and wheel loaders and excavators loading tipper trucks. The next photos show steel reinforcement being prepared and assembled into round pile cages, followed by a rotary piling rig drilling bored piles and a crane lowering reinforcement cages into position. The last photos show concrete placed from truck mixers, including a pour carried out at night under lights.
Bored piles carry the load of a tall building down to firmer ground below, which makes them common where the upper soil cannot support the weight on its own. Each pile is drilled, fitted with a reinforcement cage and filled with concrete, so the earthworks, steel work and concrete deliveries all have to be coordinated on the day.
